Early Signs of Labor
Executive summary about Signs of Labor by Jake Wilson
There are various early
signs of labor. You should always be aware of what these
labor signs are so that you are prepared to deal with them properly if they occur. Such early
signs of labor include a nesting instinct, nausea and diarrhea, vaginal spotting and bleeding, a lightening in the pelvis, membrane rupture of the amniotic sac and
Braxton Hicks contractions.
Throughout these nine months, women take on several hormonal changes which affect the body greatly. Others experience a nesting instinct where the woman is recharged and full of life and energy just a
few days prior to the birth.
Mucus blood spotting is also common. Women discharge mucus as the cervix begins to open up and it leaves a brown to pink blood mucus spotting. Lightening is another
early sign of labor. A woman will notice that she has more air as the lungs have more room to work because the baby has dropped into the pelvis in preparation for delivery.
For first time deliverers, this can happen weeks before labor begins, while second to multiple deliverers may experience lightening hours before. As the delivery approaches many women experience false contractions known as Braxton Hicks Contractions. The membrane of the amniotic sac will rupture before real contractions start.

Signs of Labor and its causes
A cyclic process is responsible for labor to begin in a woman’s body. In medical terms, this substance is known as corticotrophin-release hormone. The increase in release of these hormones change the physiological balance of a woman’s body causing the cervix to soften up. The softening of the cervix indicates the start of labor.
What are the Signs of Labor?
A woman’s body shows plenty of symptoms for doctors to conclude that she is showing
signs of labor. A Lightening experience is felt by the mother when the baby settles lower in the pelvis of
the pregnant mother. This results in an increase in pelvic pressure that also causes the pregnant woman to urinate quite often. During a woman’s delivery of the first child, this lightening experience is felt weeks before the delivery.
• The cervix of the pregnant mother starts thinning and softening up during
the last stages of pregnancy to prepare the mother for the delivery. The thinning of the cervix results in small capillaries bursting resulting in dislodging the mucous plug (The mucous plug seals the cervix throughout pregnancy).
• On many occasions,
pregnant woman feel a spurt in their energy levels. This generally happens a few days before the woman goes into labor. Please note that pregnancy causes hormonal changes in a woman resulting in upset stomach and cramps.
• Abdominal pain – Abdominal pain is reported in very few cases. In some cases, the baby makes unusual movements in the mother’s womb resulting in severe abdominal pain. Signs of labor and labor pains should not concern pregnant woman as it is quite natural.
